About

Hi! I'm Lorraine, I live in San José, Costa Rica, with my two cats. I spend my time drawing, drinking tea, doing yoga, or exploring the forest. My favorite forest is the cloud forest, and my illustrations are inspired by what I've found there: mushrooms, birds, animals, plants, flowers, etc. As a child, I loved stickers, especially those of mice in dresses or fairies, and I think that has also influenced my art quite a bit. Most of my art is done traditionally, using watercolor and/or ink.

Background:

I graduated in graphic design and worked for around 10 years in different advertising agencies, promoting brands like Coca-Cola and Kolbi, to name a few. I don't have any formal training in art; I learned a lot from books, school, private lessons, or free courses. During the pandemic, I lost my job, and without really knowing where to turn, I decided to look inward and take the plunge and become an artist. It was something I'd always dreamed of but had never given myself the opportunity to experiment with. It was always a hobby, and at some point, I wanted to try it as my job. And so it happened.

The name "Lorraine Rabbit" is something I invented in 2018. I don't see it "as a brand." It's my stage name. For me, an artist isn't a brand. For over 10 years, I had to deal with event organizers and clients telling me that my name on the poster was misspelled, that it was missing a letter, that it wasn't my last name, that the drawing was mine and not the person they had drawn, that it wasn't a man, it was a woman, and so on. I got tired, drained, and thought the only way to get rid of all that energy was to change my name. So I looked for a name that my spirit and my art could identify with more, and that's how "Lorraine Rabbit" was born.
